Rani Tal — the Queen's Lake inside Shuklaphanta

Shuklaphanta National Park

Rani Tal, the 'Queen's Lake', sits deep inside the national park surrounded by dense forest. A wooden watchtower on its bank offers superb views of waterbirds and, at dawn and dusk, grazing deer.

The lake is reached by jeep track from the park entrance with a registered guide. Carry water, binoculars and insect repellent. Boating and swimming are not permitted to protect the wildlife.

Highlights

  • Forest-ringed natural lake with a watchtower
  • Excellent birdwatching at dawn and dusk
  • Deer often graze along the shoreline
